Lorna Hadfield is a contemporary artist living and working in London.

She studied BA and MA Painting at Wimbledon College of Art. The paintings are primarily concerned with creating a palimpsest of random marks and traces which echo surfaces that are built up and eroded over time. The image is not preconceived but evolves during the painting process. Hadfield manipulates oil paint, wax and raw pigment to create a layered, tactile surface into which she draws, scratches and carves.

The works on paper and using latex are concerned with investigating and documenting the phenomenological properties of the materials used. As with the paintings, the processes involved in making the work, including chance, accident and the incidental are all crucial unpredictable elements in the creation of the image and as vital as the final outcome.
